Seeing as the old IRC channel has taking a leave of absence, and everyone is on this funky new steam getup, I though I'd bung together a group for all you old timers to join and spin a yarn on. Maybe we can all catch a game of something once in a while

Clanbase Q4 CTF Opencup: Group Game 3 Match Report |

So..Onto our third game in as many days but this time it's back to the Clanbase CTF Opencup where our opponents were clan +gR+ (Golden Rocket) from France. We were actually due to play the previous week but +gR+ used their wildcard.
This was to be our third game in the group stages of this cup and after convincing victories in our previous two group games we were quietly confident of a getting a good result.
The first map to be played was map1 where (like map3) we were yet to conceede a cap, however this record didnt last too long. As with previous games we managed to take control of centre early but as the game progressed this control was wrestled from us on a number of occasions and although the loss was only a fleeting one +gR+ was able to break our defensive line. However, Golden Rocket's offensive offectiveness came mostly through commiting their whole team to the attack, three of these oppotunities they managed to convert to caps. As you would expect such an agressive style left gaps for our own attackers who capped 7 times. MKC win the map 7-3*.
The second map was the dreaded map3, and just to make things even more challenging we managed to conceed a cap within the first minute (doh! there goes the other record). Either through luck or judgement +gR+ were making some well structured attacks on our base and managed to get the flag out on a number of occasion early in the game, however the guys on attack tracked back and made the necessary intercepts so we didn't conceed. After the bedlam at the start we began to settle and nullify their attacks as well as make some headway ourselves, then the caps started to flow. Towards the end of the game +gR+ started committing more players to the attack and capped our flag one more time, score MKC 9 - 2 +gR+ .
I must add that to +gR+'s credit they played a lot better than I expected considering there 17 - 3 loss to !nf, a clan we'd already beaten quite convincingly.
Next up in the Opencup is iLX, that game is scheduled for tomorrow.
* Technics is missing from the map1 screenshot because he got dumped back to desktop 3mins from the end and then earned himself a 2 min ban on reconnect for duplicate GUID (the nub). However! we all agreed after the match that not actually being on the server seemed to make no noticable difference to his performance. |

Jolt Q4 CTF League Cup: Round 1 Match Report |

After successfully winning our pre-qualifier the night before it was now time for us to join the competition proper in round 1, our round 1 opponent were CAPs. Going into the game the only information I had on CAPs is that they have a very nice website they don't update ... oh ... and they are competing 2 divisions higher than us in the Clanbase ctf cup, so we thought we might be in for an arse kicking.
The jolt cup is a best of three map affair and for the 1st Round the map order was map3 followed by map1 and finally map2 should a tie breaker be necessary.
On joining the Jolt server we ran into immediate problems with 'everyones favourite German' Technics suffering with a high/unstable ping. Luckily we had MKC 'fatman' Warchild waiting in the wings, ready to step in should Technics connections get any worse. Fortunately this wasnt necessary as Technics was able to play through the lag and despite not being able to hit anything for 40mins we all agreed his performance was about normal.
First up was map3, and tbh I'm still not exactly sure how you go about capping on this map? I think it generally works that one team gets bored of the enevitable stalemate and rushes up the map to their certian death whilst simultaneously leaving their flag unprotected. Anyway our attackers did some excellent work in getting the enemy flag out a total of 6 times, only once did CAPs come close to capping. In fact I'm reliable informed that their 'certain' cap was thwarted in their base as their flag carrier's balletic jump ACROSS the oblivion was turned into a jump INTO the oblivion by Technics machingun (so he was some use after all?). Final score 6 - 0.
Before moving onto the next map I would like to point out that if I'm missing from the end of map screenshot it's because F12 isnt the screenshot button, I've also learnt the importance of disbeliving anything Omen says.
Moving onto map1 everyone felt a lot better, we knew from that point on, win, lose or draw, we wouldnt have to play map3 again (woo! yay!). As with the previous map We started strongly with the Captures comming at a regular intervals, of note was Technics one man assult on the enemy base. Against all the odds he fought his way into the CAPs base taking down numberous opponents, after passing over the flag spot he fought his way out and after finally making it back to our base relised he'd lagged through the flag instead of picking it up (the nub). Communication on this map seemed better than normal which is worrying becuase I accidently left my mic on mute for the whole 20mins. Final Score 11 - 0.*
Next up in the cup is CGA, this is a quarterfinal game and its scheduled for Sunday.
*For the well being of MKC I will point out that Breeze achieved the top score on this map (I never trusted the scoring tbh). I thought I best mention this because he seemed to be developing an inferiority complex around Omen (and it's important this doesnt happen as we are frightened a Hemel Hempted sized explosion might occur should his ego implode!).
PS: When interviewed after the game Breeze requested (i.e. told) me to say 'Breeze is amazing and Omen sucks'...you heard it here first!

Jolt Q4 CTF League Cup: Pre-Qualifier Match Report |
 |
Xeelee :: 2005-12-11 22:23 :: MKC News |

 |
We had our first game of the jolt quake 4 league cup competition on Sunday night vs Knights of War, this was a pre-qualification game with the winner going through to face CAPs in the first round.
The jolt cup is a best of three map affair and for the pre-qualifier the map order was map1 followed by map2 and finally map3 should a tie breaker be necessary.
Map 1 started well with MKC taking control of mid, this control was never seriously threatened and MKC completed a comfortable victory with a final score of 9 - 0. One event worthy of note was the attrocious 'lag' that hit the server for about 5-10 mintues. The ensuring matrix-esque server slowdown was interesting to say the least but definately proved to my advantage as I had been playing F.E.A.R earlier in the day, players of max-payne may have also felt at home.
So...onto map2, some more dominate play by MKc saw them finnish off the tie with a final score of 15 - 1. On a personal note it would be nice if for once we could keep a clean sheet on map2, needless to say I'm particularly dissapointed in DarkOmen.
Next up is round 1 where we'll play CAPs, this game is scheduled for tomorrow |
